CanDo! Fund

Held in April, the Walk-a-Thon is Vallecito's major school fundraiser. Students collect pledges from family, friends, and the community, and walk laps around the Vallecito play yard to raise money for classroom resources, school-sponsored events, clubs, and performances.
The Walk-a-Thon gives us the opportunity to close the gap on our school’s funding of specialized programs. Children ask friends, family and neighbors to pledge an amount per lap they walk, or a flat dollar amount for participating.
All students walk that day and complete as many laps around the Vallecito track as they can in one hour. Each lap is 1/8th of a mile. Volunteers count laps, provide refreshments and cheer them on! The kids have a great time!
There are prizes awarded for the class with most student participation, the class bringing in the most pledge dollars, and popcorn parties for classes that raise $1,000 or more. There are also individual prizes, like a Summer Pool Pass for a family of 4 to Terra Linda Pool, tickets to amusement parks and sporting events, ice cream cones and more, more, more, that are awarded and raffled to students who help fundraise for the school.
The Walk-a-Thon is a fabulous day for building school spirit! Not only do we celebrate the gift of our Earth, but we also bring the children together to celebrate our school. They’re walking anyway, so encourage them to collect pledges and know that they helped out by contributing to the foundation that is a part of everyday life at Vallecito!
In the past we've had local sponsors donate frisbees or balls, as a memento to each student, from this fun day at school. If you have a contact for someone who'd like to partner with Vallecito this way - please email Sarah Hoover (sarah.hoover@mac.com) so that she can follow up with them for their tax-deductible contribution.
